SUMMARY:Gallery Exhibition: Mary Mattingly, The Flock House Project
DESCRIPTION: Visit the Poe Park Visitor Center for an exhibtion of a series of photographs, preparatory drawings, and artifacts documenting the public art exhibition Flock House Project by Mary Mattingly. The Flock House Project is a four-month experiment by artist Mary Mattingly in sustainable urban nomadism. From June through September, three microspheric living vessels called Flock Houses will circulate throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, the Bronx, Queens, and New York State, inhabited by artists willing to stress test the collaboratively-built designs and experiment working in a sculptural home while bringing their artistic practice to the space and surrounding environment. Each modular structure is fabricated using leftover materials such as wood shipping crates, bisected 55-gallon drums and spliced metal ladders. These structures promote wider adoption of natural systems including rainwater capture, small-scale urban agriculture, flexible solar, and human-powered energy technologies. Visit www.flockhouse.org to find out when a Flock House will be near you.
