Greenstreets

Launched in 1996, Greenstreets is a citywide program to convert paved, vacant traffic islands and medians into green spaces filled with shade trees, flowering trees, shrubs, and groundcover.

Since 1996, we have planted over 2000 Greenstreets sites throughout the five boroughs.

The care and maintenance of the Greenstreet sites is essential. The Parks Department currently waters, weeds, and cleans these sites regularly. However, a partnership with private entities would help us provide a level of care for these sites and their surrounding communities beyond which Parks can provide alone.
