Public Tree Replanting

image of public tree replantingThe Asian Longhorned Beetle was first discovered in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in August, 1996. The $2 million replanting project, jointly funded by the City and the State, was completed in July 2000. Over 3,300 trees have been replanted in Brooklyn's Community Board 1.

Parks continues to replant in areas where ALB infested trees have been removed. Parks does not plant potential ALB host trees in the areas where the beetle has been found. Instead, Parks plants species that are resistant to the beetle such as the Dawn Redwood, Turkish Filbert, honeylocust, oaks, and lindens.

If you have lost a tree and would like to request a new one, please visit the Street Tree Planting section of the parks web site.
