Aqueduct Lands Comfort Station

A scope meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at Aqueduct Avenue and 181st Street.

A scope meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Bronx Boulevard and 219th Street.

The Consultant Project Management Requirements Contract was advertised on Monday, June 12.

Construction Bid Advertisements


Story Park was advertised for construction bids starting May 3 and will close on May 24.

Ambrosini Park was advertised for construction bids starting Friday April 28 and will close on May 19.

Mt. Hope and Seton Falls Park projects were advertised for construction bids this week. The bids will close on May 11.

Devoe and River Park Projects were advertised for construction bids this week. The bids will close on May 12.

Manida Park project was advertised for construction bids last week. The bids will close on May 2.

Bridge Park

The schematic design will be presented to the full Community Board 5 on April 26 at 6 pm. THe meeting will be held at 1771 Andrews Avenue, Auditoriium (intersection of W. Tremont & Andrews Avenue).

Mullaly Park

  • A public scope meeting was held on Thursday, April 20th. Representatives from District Manager David Mojica of Community Board 4, Senator Jose M. Serrano, Assembly Member Carmen E. Arroyo, and Council Member Helen Diane Foster offices were in attendance.

  • Donna Wilcavage, the landscape consultant, will finalize the scope and begin working on a schematic master plan for the entire site.

Ballfield Projects at Allen Shandler, Soundview Park, Bronx Park : Solomine and Soccer Fields.

Public scope meetings were held on April 19 and 20. Representatives from Council member Foster's and State Senator Serrano's offices were in attendance.

 

 

Aqueduct Lands

The final plans were favorably presented to the Art Commission on April 10th.

St. James Park

The master plan was favorably presented to the Parks Committee of Community Board 7 on March 30. The RFP for design was received on April 7 and reviewed on April 13.

Construction Bid Advertisements

Manida Park Project was advertised for construction bids this week. The bids opened on April 13 and will close on May 2.

Bridge Park

The schematic design was favorably presented to the Parks Committee of Community Board 4 on April 11.

Sachkerah Woods

The construction contractor completed the site survey and began excavations for building foundations last week.

Haffen Ballfields

The construction is on schedule and is approximately 24% complete.

Mullaly Park

There will be a public scope meeting on Thursday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held at the poolhouse at 165th Street and River Avenue.  District Manager David Mojica of Community Board 4, Senator Jose M. Serrano, Assembly Member Carmen E. Arroyo, and Council Member Helen Diane Foster have been invited as well.

 

Edenwald

A schematic plan was favorably presented to the Parks Committee of Community Board 12 on Wednesday, March 29.


Grant Park

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. This ceremony marks the completion of Phase 2 of a new park at Grant Avenue and 170th Street.

 

Harris Ballfields

There will be a public scope meeting on Thursday, March 30 at 11 a.m.  The meeting will be held at the park on Bedford Park Boulevard between Goulden and Paul Avenues.  District Manager Rita Kessler of Community Board 7 will be in attendance.  Senator Efrain Gonzalez, Jr., Assembly Member Jose Rivera, and Council Member G. Oliver Koppell have been invited as well.


Art Commission

Devoe Park (Finals), River Park (Finals), and St. James Park (Preliminary): These projects were favorably reviewed by the Art Commission at the March 22nd Committee Hearing.

Aqueduct Lands: The final design was submitted on March 24 for the April 10 Art Commission Public Hearing.

River Park: Final drawing designs were submitted on March 8 for the March 22 Committee meeting.

St. James Park: Schematic design (preliminary) drawings were submitted on March 8 for the external Committee meeting.

Landscape Plan - We have completed final drawings and will submit for final review by the Art Commission on March 13.
Comfort Station - The comfort station renovation project has been awarded to the architect consultant Smith, Miller, Hawkinson. This contract should be registered by the end of March. The design will be completed early this summer with construction expected to begin this fall.

Grant Park

The ULURP application for the de-mapping of Grant Avenue was submitted to the Department of City Planning last week.  We will proceed with the design of Phase III this spring.

Ambrosini Ballfield and Playground

We have received 100% design drawings and specifications.
The design will be completed next month, with construction expected to begin this summer.

Grant Park, Phase 2

Construction is complete and the park is open to the public. The ribbon cutting for Grant Park Phase 2 is scheduled for March 28th.

Pugsley Creek Park

A schematic plan was presented to the Parks Committee of Community Board 9 on February 7th.

Edenwald Playground

A new design is underway for this neighborhood park located along Schieffelin Ave. and E 229 St. The design will transform the playground, with new play equipment, a spray shower, seating and planting. The design will be completed this spring with construction expected to begin in the summer of 2006.

Devoe Park

The schematic design was presented favorably to the Parks Committee of Community Board 7 on Tuesday, January 31. We await their resolution approving the plan.

Webster Park

Final drawings and specifications were received on January 31. They will be reviewed and signed this week. Construction is expected to begin in early summer 2006 and completed in the summer of 2007.

New Design Projects

Scope meeting minutes were distributed for Drew Park Phase 2 and Grant Park Phase 3. These comments will be synthesized into Scopes of Work when we receive comments back from the attendees. These designs will be completed this summer.

Haffen Park

The reconstruction of this park began in December. The project includes new softball and soccer fields, fencing, benches and plantings. We expect the work to be completed in the winter, 2006.

Sachkerah Woods Playground

The construction of a new playground and comfort station is underway at Van Cortlandt Park. This work includes new plantings, pathways, seating and fencing. The construction started in October 2005 and will be completed in the fall of 2006.

Pugsley Creek Park

A Community Board Meeting is scheduled for February 9 at 7:00 p.m. at 1967 Turnbull Avenue, Bronx, New York.

Art Commission

The Story Park comfort station building and Devoe Park project submissions were accepted for preliminary approval by the Art Commission on January 25.

St. James Park

The Southeast Corner Entrance Staircase and Accessible Ramp are complete and open to the public. All three entrance staircases on Creston Avenue are also open. Overall construction progress is 55%. Work on the other entrances begins in early March.


Manida Ballfield

Final design drawings were received last week. They will be transited for construction expected to begin in the spring of 2006.


Devoe Park

Landscape: We will receive 100% design drawings in two weeks.

The design is scheduled for review by the Art Commission on January 25.

Comfort Station: The comfort station restoration work was awarded to a consultant. The design will be completed this spring, with construction to begin late summer 2006.

 

Grant Park, Phase 3

This project will construct active and additional passive areas of the park to include uses for all ages.

A scope meeting was held at the park on January 17. Those in attendance included District Manager Mr. David Mojica of Bronx Community Board 4 and a representative from Assembly Member Aurally Greene's office.

 

Drew Park. Phase 2

This project will reconstruct the park to include play equipment for all age children including adult fitness. Additional design elements will include a spray shower, new pavement, seating and planting.

A scope meeting was held at the park on January 17. Those in attedance included District Manager Mr. John Dudley of Bronx Community Board 3.


Ambrosini Ballfield and Playground

The design was favorably reviewed on January 10 by the Parks Committee of Community Board 10.

Aqueduct Lands Playground

The final design will be submitted on January 27 for the Art Commission submission. It will be reviewed at the February 13 meeting.

River Park

The project was reviewed favorably on January 10 at the Community Board 6 meeting at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Story Park

The Comfort Station/ M&O Building project was submitted to the Art Commission on January 11 for the January 25 review.

Manida Ballfield

The Manida Park final design will be reivewed at the Art Commission's January 25 meeting.

Staffing

Leon Fendley has been hired as the Bronx Borough Community Liaison to assist the Croton Initiative.


River Park

The Parks Committee of the Community Board will review River Park in January. The design will be completed this February, with construction expected to begin early summer 2006.

Pugsley Creek Greenway

The design for the greenway includes a multi-use trail, boardwalks, native plantings and viewing areas. The design will be completed this April with construction expected to begin summer 2006.


Ambrosini Ballfield and Playground

On January 9, the Parks Committee of Community Board 10 will review the schematic design.

Staffing

La Shawn Wiggins, an Assistant Landscape Architect, will join the Croton team beginning on December 19. Her first assignment will be to attend a scope meeting for the design of the Pelham Bay picnic area and pathways.

 

Story Park


Landscape:
A meeting was held at PS 100 with Assembly Member Ruben Diaz, Jr., the Principal, Ms. Irizarry and 10 student delegates to listen to their ideas on the schematic design. The students articulated their ideas enthusiastically. Parks will incorporate as many of the ideas as possible. The design will be completed this winter with construction expected to begin this summer.


Williamsbridge Oval


A public scope meeting was held at the park on December 1 with more than 25 people in attendance. Attendees included representatives from the Offices of Senator Efrain Gonzalez, Council Member Oliver Koppell, and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz. The group expressed many thoughtful ideas that will help inform the design, expected to be complete in fall 2006 with construction to commence approximately four months later.


Grant Park Playground, Phase II


The construction is approximately 85% complete. The anticipated completion date is February 15, 2006.


Webster Park

The project was presented to Community Board #6 on December 2 at the Phipps Housing Technology Career Center in the Bronx. Approximately 25 people were in attendance and the project was approved.


Drew Park

Phase one of the construction at the park is nearing completion. This work includes new basketball and handball courts, fencing, seating and planting.  The design of phase two will begin this winter with construction expected to begin in the fall of 2006.


Pugsley Creek Park

Parks has commenced the design for a multi-use trail and greenway connection through the park. The design will provide access to views of the wetlands, incorporate native plantings, seating and signage. The design is expected to be completed in the spring of 2006 and should begin construction in the fall of 2006.


Sachkerah Woods Playground

A groundbreaking was held on November 4, 2005 for the new playground to be constructed at Van Cortlandt Park. This project will include a new comfort station, play equipment, seating, pathways and plantings. The project will be completed in the fall of 2006.


Bridge Park

Parks has commenced the design for a new park development along the Harlem River just north of the Washington Bridge. The project will include a multi-use trail, seating and landscaping. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2006.


Sachkerah Woods Playground (Saturn)

The construction contract has been registered. We expect the construction period will take one year to complete.


Seton Falls Park

A design is underway to revitalize the trail system within the park. The design will include ADA accessible trails, new signage and plantings. The construction is expected to begin in summer 2006.


Crotona Park
:

A new design is underway for the lake edge, plaza and picnic area. The design will naturalize the lake, incorporate native plantings and eliminate the adjacent slope erosion. Construction is expected to begin early spring 2007.


Webster Playground

Parks has commenced the design for the park renovation to include a playground, new plantings, sitting areas and pathways. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2006.


Bronx River Park

A new design is underway for the neighborhood park located south of the Bronx Zoo at E. 180th Street and Boston Road. The design will take advantage of the spectacular views of the Bronx River waterfall and include a new playground, seating and planting. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2006.


Drew Playground, Phase I:

Construction is underway for the new basketball and handball courts, curb and fence. The contractor is installing the new perimeter curb and fence post footings and has started rough grading for the new planting areas.


St. James, Phase I:

Construction continues for new walks and retaining walls. New face-stone was installed on the accessible ramp. The existing and new blue stone pavers are being reset.

Pelham Bay Park Projects:

Tennis Courts: The contractor continues to work on fence painting and mesh installation. The footings for the tennis nets were poured and the concrete pads and benches were installed. The color seal coat will begin on August 29th. This project is approximately 80% complete. The anticipated completion date is September 5th.

Middletown Road Perimeter: The contractor began demolition of the concrete stair landing and is continuing the installation of the concrete curb and sidewalk pavement and is fine grading topsoil material along Middletown Road. They are also continuing to core drill the fence posts along the curb. This project is approximately 80% complete. The anticipated completion date is September 5th.


Grant Park Playground, Phase II

The contractor began the installation of the new park perimeter curb and wall. They continue the general excavation and removal of debris from the site as well as the installation of the retaining wall footing and drainage structures and associated pipes. This project is approximately 25% complete. The anticipated completion date is February 15, 2006.

Grant Park Playground Groundbreaking Ceremony

There will be a groundbreaking ceremony for Grant Park Playground on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 11AM, adjacent to the corner of Grant Avenue and 170th Street. This ceremony marks the beginning of Phase II of a multi-phased park development project. Grant Park is a new park to be constructed along Grant Avenue between E. 169th Street and E.170th Street . This phase of the project will provide shade and flowering trees and shrubs, grouped around a central lawn and surrounded by a meandering bench lined path. Decorative paving will be installed at the entrances and a 7’ steel picket fence will border the edge of the park.

St. James Park Renovation

The staircase at St. James Park

Phase I of the renovation of St. James Park will cost $750,000 and include restoration of four staircases surrounding the park. The eastern corner staircases at 191st and 193rd and Creston Avenue will be restored with new bluestone pavement and restored hand railings. Two additional staircases at Morris Avenue and 191st and 193rd and Jerome Avenue will be completed transforming the entrances to St. James Park. New concrete staircase supports and backing walls will be poured for installation of the reset and new stones. To complete the entrances, Parks & Recreation will also restore site lighting, and asphalt pavement lawn areas adjacent to the asphalt pavements will be reconstructed.

Phase II of the project, which is scheduled to begin in late 2006, will build on Phase I work to restore the historic elegance of the park by addressing all significant landscape features. The $3 million restoration of the historic landscape will include reconstruction of pathways, perimeter retaining wall and fencing surrounding the park, plantings, lawns and benches. The decorative stone walls will be reinforced and loose or missing sections replaced. The horticultural character of the site will be enhanced by the restoration of understory plantings, including shrubs and small flowering trees. Interior pathways will be rebuilt to improve circulation and eliminate drainage problems. Phase II will also look to address the lack of open space available for multi-purpose recreational activities by creating a small multi-use turf field area.
