1st Annual Juneteenth Emancipation Day

11:00 a.m.

Please note: This event has already taken place. Please use the Browse and Search options on the right to find upcoming events.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19 and known as Freedom Day, originated in Texas in 1865 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. Despite the Emancipation Proclamation having been issued on Sept 22, 1862, many African-Americans in the south remained slaves until June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Glaveston Island, Texas to enforce the emancipation. Today, Juneteenth has become a time for reflection, rejoicing, and planning the future.

We hope you will celebrate with us by coming out for Pleasant Village Community Garden's 1st Annual Juneteenth Celebration. Come share your stories and celebrate freedom with food and friends!
