Co-sponsored by Parks & Recreation and the United Nations - Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) to introduce the Growing Connection, viable and sustainable vegetable cultivation, to NYC. Local students will be demonstrating planting throughout the day.
The Growing Connection Links people and cultures through a global network of people growing vegetables and sharing information to improve nutrition and break the cycle of hunger and poverty. Projects operate in Nicaragua, Ghana, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and across the U.S.
Central to TGC is the EarthBox, a breakthrough tool to grow high-value produce almost anywhere. Low-cost, low maintenance, using local inputs, the EarthBox consumes much less water than in-ground cultivation.
Guest speakers include Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh, UN-FAO Director Dr. Florence Chenoweth, and other UN representatives.
