This is an Accessible Recreation Center.

St. James Recreation Center has something for everyone.  Senior and teen programs each take place every day, with games and special events.  The martial arts enthusiast will find much to enjoy, with mixed martial arts classes and Kumdo, a Korean art incorporating mind and body.  Kids can have a blast at St. James as part of Indoor Street Hockey or Biddy Basketball.  There are even Break Dance classes open to all ages.

The cardiovascular and strength training rooms close 15 minutes prior to the closing of the facility.

Holidays

On holidays (New Year’s Day and Eve, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Eve, and Christmas Day and Eve), recreation center hours will change. Biddy Basketball

This is an instructional basketball program for children ages 6-13. Participants will learn the fundamentals of basketball in a non-competitive setting.

This class is geared toward students who have no hip-hop dance and break dance background. Participants learn the basic body moves and techniques in a matter of weeks.

A workshop designed for true beginners. Students will learn how to hold and maneuver the mouse, use the left and right buttons, and scroll with the wheel.

Shape Up NYC: Zumba

Zumba is a fusion of Latin, International and popular music dance themes creating a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system!  The routines feature aerobic, fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body with easy to follow dance steps.

Shape Up NYC classes are FREE and available to those who are not Recreation Center members. Please bring a key lock to secure your belongings.

Teen Program

Each evening, teens can partake in a variety of activities, including billiards, basketball, ping pong, cards, computer classes, and table games.

Free tournaments and sports programs, such as basketball, softball, and flag football, are made available for youth and teens during the holidays.

Turn 2 Afterschool Program

The St. James Turn 2 Afterschool Program is available at no cost for children ages 6-12. A structured schedule of activities has been implemented that offer the children the following: homework assistance, arts & crafts projects, performing arts, fitness and life skills workshops, and seasonal special events. In addition, the children are provided with daily healthy snacks.

The Afterschool Program begins in mid-September and continues through to the end of June. Children must be registered for the program. Parents/guardians must complete a registration package and submit a copy of their child's birth certificate and updated medical form.

Walk NYC

Starts April 9, 2013

Get out to a park and walk the City!

Walk NYC is a FREE program that encourages New Yorkers of all ages to get fit while enjoying the outdoors. Parks will staff locations throughout the City with experienced walking instructors.  Experience NYC in a new way.
