The Playwork Pilot Program has ended for the summer. Please check back for updated information.

Parks & Recreation is pleased to continue the Playwork Pilot Program. At these playgrounds, children have access not only to traditional playground equipment, such as swings and slides, but also to moveable elements, such as sand, water, wheelbarrows, pails and shovels. With these materials, children are encouraged to use their imaginations to create their own worlds. At each site, trained playworkers facilitate activity and provide an additional level of safety.

Imagination in a Box

One unusual feature of these playgrounds is the Imagination Playground in a BOX—a colorful container on wheels, reminiscent of trunks full of treasures. The sides and top of the boxes open to reveal a variety of loose parts such as foam blocks and sand and water tools, as well as found items such as tarps, fabric and milk crates, which children use to create their own toys and games.
