Gracie Mansion's holiday tree was recycled at Carl Schurz Park on Saturday, January 10, 2004. The tree was put through a chipper on the final day of MulchFest 2004. The 16-ft. Douglas Fir, placed in the Mansion the second week in December, was decorated with ornaments created by New York City public school students throughout the five boroughs. Many of these students were among the visitors to Gracie Mansion during the holiday season.

The recycled trees from MulchFest 2004 will provide mulch for plantings and tree beds across the city.
