Red Hook Recreation Center

155 Bay Street
(at Henry Street)
Red Hook Park and Recreation Center opened to support Red Hook Houses, the first high-rise public housing in New York City. When the Recreation Center officially opened on August 12, 1936, The New York Times reported that Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia was greeted by the thunderous cheers of more than 40,000 area residents, many of them children. With its diverse facilities, Red Hook Recreation Center has remained an important part of the Red Hook community in Brooklyn for almost 70 years.
