THE BASICS
In today’s technological world, it is essential to understand basic computer skills. CRC’s “The Basics” class series provides participants with the fundamental skills necessary for using a computer and the Internet. With these four classes, members will increase their comfort level with computers and knowledge of how computers can enhance their everyday lives.
Before we can dig into the really fun and productive computer applications, we must first learn some basics about your computer. For most people this means the Windows. Even if you are new to computers, you won't find this a difficult task. To learn ALL about Windows would be a course in itself. We will be touching on just enough to get you started.

Computer Basics 1 |
This introductory class is ideal for people who have never used the computer before or need a quick refresher. Instructors will begin with the most basic details, starting from turning the computer on and off and components such as mouse, keyboard, floppies etc. The course will introduce virtual components of the computer such as Windows as an interface, desktop & taskbars, start menus and dialog boxes. Internet Basics 1 |
The ability to use the Internet opens a wealth of information. This course explains what the Internet is and it’s various uses. In teaching participants its various uses. Students will learn about modems, the concept of a browser, use of search engines and navigating websites. They will also open an email account. No computer experience is necessary. |
IB2 |
Internet Basics 2 |
Using the Internet can open new routes of communication that are quick and efficient. This course will teach participants the detailed use of email accounts to send information to others through cyberspace. Instructors will teach participants to send and receive emails, attach files, download attachments, forward and reply to emails, create mailboxes and maintain email accounts. Instructors will demonstrate how to use search engines to narrow down the vast amounts of information available on the Internet. No computer experience is necessary. |
BEGINNER MICROSOFT WORD
Microsoft Word is one of the most popular and comprehensive word processing programs used today. A strong understanding of this program is highly valuable in creating anything from a school report to a small poster, or professional document.

Microsoft Word Beginner 1 |
This tutorial teaches Microsoft Word basics. Although knowledge of navigating within a Windows environment is helpful, this class is perfect for people who have never used Microsoft Word before. Participants will learn to open the application, create a new document, add text, save and close the word file and exiting the application. Some computer experience is recommended, but not essential. |

Microsoft Word Beginner 2 |
This course is most useful when taken in conjunction with Beginner 1. Beginner 2 will review basic skills of Microsoft Word and cover elementary formatting techniques by using the Standard Toolbar such as adding text/pictures, copying/pasting, font and paragraph formatting, undo/redo functions and shortcut notations using the keyboard. Some computer experience is recommended. |

Microsoft Word Beginner 3 |
This class will explain how to use the Formatting Toolbar to enhance the design of Microsoft Word documents. Word has an exceptional array of tools to create a document to suit one’s needs. Instructors should assess the needs of the class in general and introduce approximately 15 formatting tools to cover these needs. Participants should become familiar with indentation, alignment, text boxes, font styles and sizes, adding colors and printing options. Some computer experience is recommended. |

Microsoft Word Beginner 4 |
This final class in the introductory Microsoft Word series will review using the Formatting Toolbar to modify text. Participants will also learn to insert pictures, Clip Art, and WordArt to create documents with a professional look. The class should using default and custom tabs, alignment, creating tables, inserting ClipArt, Pictures, applying styles, formatting sections in a document, headers and footers in multi-section documents, converting a document to HTML, inserting Bookmarks, creating hyperlinks, inserting bullets and setting the page background. Some computer experience is recommended. |
INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT WORD
It is quite possible to create documents without having to change any of the settings – participants can work around most of the formatting and options the program tries to impose on them and their results will be decent. But why settle for decent when you can have a top-notch document without much added effort? With the intermediate Word tutorials, CRC class participants learn how to customize documents and then move on to customizing their settings, so that Word responds more effectively to their input.

Microsoft Word Intermediate 1 |
This class introduces participants to graphical tools that allow creative liberty to customize documents to suit their needs. Participants learn to insert ClipArt images, photographs and scanned images, to use the picture toolbar to customize images to desired size, contrast, brightness, color and background, to draw custom shapes and lines and to create WordArt. This class promises to be a lot of fun. |

Participants learn to format text using the Formatting toolbar. This class involves working with the Font Dialog Box, applying Indents and Spacing, controlling Pagination, applying and modifying Styles, formatting Bulleted and Numbered Lists, formatting paragraphs, find/replace function and using the Thesaurus function. Familiarity with these functions serves well in most practical applications of Word in daily life. |

Microsoft Word Intermediate 3 |
This class is extremely useful for participants interested in sharpening their formatting skills and builds on concepts that allow them to incorporate tables in basic text documents. Participants will learn to create tables, insert a uniform table, draw a table freehand, navigate/populate a table, insert/split and merge cells, adjust table width and height, delete rows/columns/tables, format table appearance and sort and calculate in tables. The class will also touch briefly on page orientations and sizes that enable participants to create a multitude of document types. |

Microsoft Word Intermediate 4 |
This class builds on concepts learned in preceding Intermediate classes and introduces participants to functions that are very practical in daily office work. Participants are introduced to the Letters & Mailings function using the mailing wizard and learn to create large letter mailings and labels and envelopes. They further learn to customize these mailings to suit individual needs and to insert date/time, page numbers and import addresses from external Excel files. |
BEGINNER MICROSOFT EXCEL
This tutorial teaches Microsoft Excel basics. Although knowledge of how to navigate in a Windows environment is helpful, this tutorial was created for the computer novice but requires that the participant have attended the Basic Computers class. This class series will exemplify the true potential that Excel offers to anyone willing to learn and explore its varied and highly useful functions. Functions will be taught using examples that will clearly illustrate the application and desired optimum result.

Microsoft Excel Beginner 1 |
This class acquaints participants with spreadsheet basics such as screen elements, creating and renaming worksheets and standard toolbar functions - opening, closing, saving, and more. The class will cover basic toolbar functions and will introduce basic typing and operations using the spreadsheet. Participants are required to have attended the Basic Computers class. |

Microsoft Excel Beginner 2 |
This class builds on earlier concepts with participants learning further basics such as navigating cells, adding worksheets, rows, and columns, resizing rows and columns, selecting cells, moving, copying and sorting cells and freezing panes. Participants will be required to be conversant with concepts taught in Beginner 1. |

Microsoft Excel Beginner 3 |
This class will familiarize participants with formulae and functions that can be applied to simplify mathematical and accounting processes in an Excel spreadsheet. Participants will learn to link worksheets, apply relative, absolute, and mixed referencing and also perform basic functions such as Autosum using the function wizard. Basic ascending and descending sorts, complex sorts, Autofill, alternating text and numbers with Autofill and other highly useful Autofill functions will be introduced. |
MEB 4 |
Microsoft Excel Beginner 4 |
Participants will learn to translate and represent results using graphical tools available in Excel. Several functions facilitating graphical data representation are available. Participants will learn to add an image from a file, edit a graphic and apply AutoShapes. Emphasis will be laid on creating Charts, resizing and moving a chart, using the Chart formatting toolbar and copying a chart to Microsoft Word. Participants will also be acquainted with several keyboard shortcuts during this entire class series. |
INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT EXCEL
This succinct, four-part tutorial uses detailed examples to illustrate the intermediate level functions of Excel but also explores some of the more challenging functions of graphing. The complexity of the advanced level computing using Excel requires patience but is extremely rewarding.

Microsoft Excel Intermediate 1 |
The first in the intermediate class series will touch upon the additional functions available in the Formatting toolbar. Participants will learn to format Cells using the dialog box, set dates and times, apply styles using the Style dialog box such as creating a new style. They will also learn to use the Format Painter, AutoFormat function and other formulae and functions helping to customize an Excel spreadsheet. |

Microsoft Excel Intermediate 2 |
The second class in this series will review formulae learnt earlier in Beginner 3. It will then proceed to concentrate upon additional menus that allow for creating customized toolbars and that perform specific required processed not available in standard programs. This will allow for customization to suit individual needs. The class will also touch upon the concept of Macros and recording and running a Macro. |

Microsoft Excel Intermediate 3 |
This class will review graphical functions taught in Beginner 4 and acquaint participants with additional customized output that can be obtained using the Chart wizard. Participants will also learn to apply page breaks, page orientation, margins, headers, footers, and page numbers in order to publish custom publications. They will learn to preview and print great reports! |

Microsoft Excel Intermediate 4 |
This final class in the series will teach participants to use the Format Painter in order to customize their print documents. Participants will learn about various templates already available in Excel that suit a variety of purposes. They will further learn to apply AutoFormat functions in order to produce print reports to desired standards. |
BEGINNER MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
PowerPoint is a versatile presentation tool. This class series will help participants to customize their presentations to an on-screen slide show complete with special effects. Participants will find this tool useful in presenting their ideas in a clear, coherent and eye-catching manner!

The first tutorial in the series introduces participants to PowerPoint using the AutoContent Wizard. Participants learn to create a new presentation and navigate within the PowerPoint screen. Participants learn to insert a new slide, apply a design template, change slide layouts and reorder and hide slides. |

The second tutorial in the series teaches participants to create and edit a custom slide show. Participants learn to add content to a Text box, resize and customize it using Text box properties and finally to delete a text box. In the third of the series of classes, participants learn to use Color Schemes, apply backgrounds, graphics, add clip art and file images. Participants learn to edit a graphic, use AutoShapes, apply WordArt and Slide Effects. Participants will be taught keyboard shortcuts and provided with design tips and presentation basics. These functions will enable participants to customize their presentations to suit their purpose. |

In the final class, participants learn to apply Action buttons and use animation in slides. Participants learn to navigate using the Animation preview and control slide transitions and Slide show options. They are familiarized with the Slide master and learn to control page setup.
