Originally opened in 1900, Hamilton Fish Park and Recreation Center underwent construction in 1936 to accommodate the large pool that has become an important part of the Lower East Side community, particularly for children and athletes. Hamilton Fish Pool was so highly regarded that the U.S. Olympic Team used it for practice sessions on their way to the 1952 Helsinki Games.
