Special Events
Computer Resource Centers host special events focused around "brain games," recreational activities that require problem-solving skills and creative thinking. In June 1999 we hosted the first annual Silicon Park, a "design your own park" contest for afterschool children from around the city. With the support of the ViewSonic Corporation and the Journey of Hope Tour, we were able to provide new computers for the four contest winners.

Other contests have included Internet chess tournaments, essay writing and art contests, typing races, puzzle-solving contests, Internet scavenger hunts and art projects. Our program also adds a computer component to recreational activities like Parks' Winter and Summer Festivals and the Afterschool Olympics. Sponsoring a special event is an excellent way for companies to get involved with our program in a highly visible way.
