Urban Environmental Education Intern
The Urban Park Rangers are a division of New York City Parks & Recreation. The Rangers' mission is to link New Yorkers to the natural world. Rangers teach people to care for the environment and the parks, protect the parks and their wild residents, and restore New York City 's natural heritage. The Urban Park Rangers are members of the Urban Ecology Collaborative (UEC), a multi-city group comprised of environmental organizations in the northeast region that work together to share ideas, models and tools in the field of urban ecology.
We are looking to hire an intern to coordinate the Multi-city Urban Environmental Education Program Inventory in New York City.PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The ultimate goal of the program inventory is the creation of an Environmental Education Systems Map that will help us to identify key stakeholders, recognize points where intervention will make the most difference, target specific outcomes and determine indicators of success. The project partners have developed a survey tool for the purpose of the assessment. In January/February 2005, each city partner will begin assessments of organizations in their geographic areas.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The intern will:
• be responsible for the planning and execution of surveys for the purpose of the assessment.
• generate a comprehensive list of environmental education organizations in the New York City area, and send out the survey to these organizations.
• follow up with phone calls or visits to these organizations in order to complete the survey. There is a data entry component and a possible role in data analysis. • assist in the production of the final report, and also provide support to other UEC-related projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
The job is ideally suited for a recent graduate, graduate student or an advanced undergraduate student in the urban ecology/environmental education field. It is an excellent opportunity to network with local environmental organizations in New York City , and partners along the East Coast. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail and proficiency in MS Office are required.
DURATION
Winter through Spring 2005, 15 hours per week
COMPENSATION
$11.00 per hour
