Marketing & Special Events
Parks Marketing & Special Events works to increase city revenue, manage special events, and deliver free, quality programming to New York City residents in all five boroughs.
Some public programs that are produced are the Great Halloween Party in Central Park, the Easter Eggstravaganza, Bocce, Handball, and Beach Volleyball Championships, and Rock 'n' Rollerblade. In order to produce these events, Parks' Marketing and Special Events office solicits corporate sponsorship from private companies. Some of the sponsors of past programs have been Foot Locker, Nathan's Famous, Modell's Sporting Goods, Time Out New York, Z-100 FM, Evian, Reebok, Viacom, Pathmark, Western Union, Nutella, WKTU, and M&M. The intern will be involved in every step of production from working with graphic designers and ordering banners and posters to the mailing distribution and the on-site set-up.
The Marketing and Special Events office is also responsible for permitting large scale events that may be corporate promotions, advertising campaigns, press conferences, concerts, and sampling events. The permitting process involves both field work and office work. In the office you will have interaction with the Commissioner and several departments such as the Legal office, Press office, and Central Recreation. The intern will help determine site fees and the appropriateness of the event in public parkland.
The Marketing intern will report directly to the Director of Marketing. The intern will work with the Director to develop new ideas, write proposals seeking corporate sponsorship, and draft letters for the Director's and the Commissioner's signatures. The intern will have fantastic networking opportunities and will develop many marketable skills.
You should apply for this unpaid internship if you are hard-working, interested in parks and the outdoors, and would like hands-on experience in public service. This would be an ideal internship for anyone who is interested in Marketing or Government.
