Greenbelt Nature Center
Intern
The Greenbelt Nature Center, which opened in June 2004, serves as a portal to the 36 miles of hiking in the Greenbelt and serves as a community resources center for the public. Environmental education school programs, outdoor education, arts and culture, park stewardship and health and fitness programs are offered to the general public. The Greenbelt Nature Center works in partnership with the Greenbelt Conservancy, which is the not-for-profit organization that supports the programming and interpretative exhibits at the Nature Center.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The interns will assist in interpretative hikes for the public as well as in planning and executing summer events. They will also assist the staff with educational programming and nature-theme birthday parties and the Nature Center Coordinator with clerical duties. Finally, they may be asked to greet the general public and answer inquiries. They may be required to work weekends and some evenings.
QUALIFICATIONS/ SPECIAL SKILLS/ AREAS OF STUDY
Major in education, communications, or science production is a must. The applicants should demonstrate computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Desktop Publisher), be highly motivated and responsible, be able to work with minimal guidance and show interest in conservation and environmental issues.
This is an unpaid internship.
