Fort Greene Park

Fort Greene Park, located in Brooklyn, is a popular neighborhood park with historical significance. The thirty-acre park originally designed by Olmsted and Vaux, includes tennis courts and playgrounds, hosts educational programming, concerts, poetry readings, and other civic gatherings. It is the site of the Prison Ships Martyrs monument dedicated to Revolutionary War prisoners, designed by McKim, Meade and White. The park's visitor center, also designed by McKim Meade and White, will be consistently open to the public for the first time in many years, offering public programs and information about the park's history and social significance.

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

With the expected re-opening of the visitor center in late Spring 2005, the park is in need of an energetic intern to assist the Coordinator in planning, implementing and staffing the summer public programs and leading volunteer projects.  Activities will include horticulture-based projects, arts and craft activities, summer concerts and creative writing series.

Since the visitor center has been closed for several years, it is a wonderful opportunity to assist with the re-opening of a historic resource and learn about horticulture, educative-programming and community outreach.
