Commissioner Benepe today joined Council Member Michael McMahon to celebrate $1.29 million in renovations at Tompkinsville Park in Staten Island.

Recent renovations at the park have transformed it into a serene civic plaza with a new decorative steel perimeter fence and gates, trash receptacles, seasonal plantings and a reconstructed lawn. The park has also been equipped with accessible benches and an accessible water fountain to better serve all park-goers or commuters who will be using the area.

Commissioner Benepe and Council Member McMahon were also joined by a historical actor portraying Daniel D. Tompkins, the U.S. Vice President for whom the park is named. All three pulled the lever to turn on a brand new water fountain feature to inaugurate the re-opening of Tompkinsville Park.

Since 2002, Parks & Recreation has invested more than $70 million for Staten Island park improvements. Along with Tappen Park, which broke ground on the same day as Tompkinsville Park, this reconstruction represents Parks & Recreation’s urban revitalization efforts in the borough.
