athletic field ribbon cutting at 11 AM today

- On Monday,
Commissioner Stern officially reopened Lefferts
Playground after a $1.3 million renovation.
Also present at the ribbon cutting were Borough
President Claire Shulman, City Council Member
Juanita Watkins, members from Community Board
10, and the Locust Grove Civic Association.
Emmanuel Thingue redesigned the one-acre park
with new sculptural elements reflecting the
fluid lines and movement found in nature. Lefferts
Playground is located at North Conduit Avenue
between 122nd Street and Lefferts
Blvd. more
- Operations
Management and Planning (OMP) will hold an on-site
meeting with Queens operations to discuss Class
A lawn improvement. Class A lawns are park lawns
that that have recently undergone improvements
as a result of capital funding.
- Projects to reconstruct the perimeter fence at Kissena Park in Queens and a portion of the Shore Parkway Promenade in Brooklyn have entered the bidding process. Currently the contracts are under legal review. Thereafter, bid dates will be established. The bid documents are located at the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Flushing, New York 11368. more
- Greenstreets continues to supervise
contractors in the field who are excavating
and planting sites. more
- Central Forestry participates
in a conference call with the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the New
York State Department of Agriculture & Markets
about wood waste and debris removal of tree
infested by the Asian long-horned beetle. more
- Central Recreation
received signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOU)
from the Human Resources Administration (HRA)
to fund athletic, environmental, computer, and
arts programming. Total funding for these programs
will exceed $5 million.
- Teens at Parks
continued play in the teen flag football league
at Red Hook Recreation Center in Brooklyn and
Liberty Park in Queens. more
- The first
shipment of approximately 250,000 of the 500,000
bulbs donated by the City & Port Authority
of Rotterdam arrived today at Randall's Island.

- 60 Parks Opportunities
Program (POP) participants were processed for
employment with New York City/ Parks & Recreation
at the St. James Recreation Center in the Bronx.
- Historic House staff assesses income lost to historic sites resulting from the tragedy of September 11th, with the hope of providing economic relief to needy non-profits. more
