  • Commissioner Stern speaks at the Donellan Square Groundbreaking at 11 AM today. Donellan Square is located at 150th Street and St. Nicholas in northern Manhattan. more info>>

  • The groundbreaking at Donnellan Square marks the beginning of a $450,000 capital reconstruction project. The new square will include new benches, fencing, and lighting as well as four new large planting beds. Funding for this project came, in large part, from Council Member Stanley Michels. more info>>

  • Bronx Operations processes 120 Parks Opportunities Program (POP) participants for employment with Parks.

  • Staten Island plants 15,000 daffodil bulbs in an area adjacent to Snug Harbor on Richmond Terrace.

  • Brooklyn's Technical Shops is producing signage for the 2001 Daffodil Project. This citywide initiative is a way for New Yorkers to help create a recurring memorial by planting one million daffodil bulbs in parks, along highways, in community gardens, and schools around the city.

  • Operations Management and Planning (OMP) performs an inspection of a Brooklyn recreation center. Center inspections are a key part of the Recreation Scorecard program, which began in 1999 as an attempt to extend Parks Inspection Program (PIP) style accountability to the Recreation Centers. OMP performs at least 1 inspection per week; each is conducted by a team of 2 or more analysts. Center inspections, like PIP inspections, are unannounced and take place about 2 times a year.

  • Bid documents are available for the reconstruction of the tennis courts in Fred Johnson Park in Manhattan. Bids are due from contractors on November 28. The bid documents are located at the Olmsted Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Flushing, New York 11368.

  • This month, Parks is sending 7 Bronx employees to a 30-hour NYS DEC-approved training course to become licensed exterminators. Participants will review label interpretation, safety, environmental protection, pest identification, pesticide types and uses, application techniques, and New York State laws and regulations.
  • Telecommunications technicians set up lines for fire and burglar systems at Hunts Point Recreation Center. Hunts Point RC is located at 765 Menida Street (at Lafayette Ave.) in the Bronx.
  • Parks has installed 694 historical signs throughout the city. A total of 2122 signs have been drafted. more info>>
