- Commissioner Stern will
speak at Mulchfest
2002 in Tompkins Square
Park on January 5th at 11:00 a.m. This program,
which is in its sixth season, utilizes the
city's existing equipment to turn old Christmas
trees into woodchips. The chips are then used
to protect living trees in city parks and
along city streets. There are Mulchfest sites
in each of the five boroughs. Tompkins
Square Park is located
between Avenues A and B from East 7th to East
10th Street in Manhattan.
- On January 6th, Commissioner
Stern will start the Fred Lebow Classic 5M
race at 9:30 a.m. in Manhattan's Central
Park. The race, sponsored
by the New York Road Runner's Club, will start
from Central Park East Drive and East 99th
Street.
- Bid documents are available
for contractor pick-up today for the project
to reconstruct selected mini-pools throughout
the city. Bids are due from contractors on
January 23. Bid documents may be picked up
from the Olmsted
Center, located inside
Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing,
Queens.
- The Chief of Operations
and the Director of Operations and Management
Planning (OMP) visit Kansas City to discuss
the design and implementation of a
Parks
Inspection Program
(PIP) in their city modeled after New York
City Parks and Recreation's program.
- Bronx Parks
Enforcement Patrol
(PEP) responded to the excavation of a city
tree. Upon arrival, PEP issued a summons to
the construction company responsible for the
tree removal.
- The Queens Borough Commissioner
and Chief of Staff joined Mayor Michael R.
Bloomberg and numerous dignitaries for the
inauguration of Helen M. Marshall as the Queens
Borough President. The event was held at the
New
York Hall of Science,
which is located in Flushing Meadows-Corona
Park in Flushing, Queens.
