- On Tuesday, February 5 at 10 AM, the Job Assistance Center (JAC) and the Parks Career Training Program (PACT) sponsor a job fair for approximately 700 Parks Opportunity Program (POP) and Work Experience Program (WEP) participants at the Carmine Recreation Center. Fifty companies offering employment in maintenance, security, direct care, food service, administration, retail and horticulture will attend. The Carmine Recreation Center is located at 1 Clarkson Street between 7th Avenue and Hudson Street in Manhattan.
- Operations participated in a conference call with staff from the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) regarding implementation of bar-coding at the main 5-Boro storehouse and parts room. This will save computer time and greatly improve inventory control. Operations will set up training for the storehouse staff and plans to have the program up and running at 5-Boro by March. The storehouse is located on Randalls Island.
- Bronx Garage and Forestry, in conjunction with Waterways & Trailways, remove river blockage and dead wood from along the Bronx River today as part of a continuing effort to clean the river's water and green spaces. Parks has acquired eight critical acres of parkland along the Bronx River in the past three years.
- Queens crews and the Department of Transportation (DOT) installed lights at Juniper Valley Park, which is bordered by Lutheran Avenue, Dry Harbor Road, Juniper Boulevard North and Juniper Boulevard South. The lights were requested of Parks by a group of senior citizens so they would be able to play shuffleboard later in the day.
- The Urban Park Rangers (UPR) meet with the Board of Education's Office of Instructional Technology today to discuss the possible use of the Salt Marsh Nature Center as a training facility for new teachers. The nature center is located at 3302 Avenue U in Brooklyn.
- From February 1 to February 28, the Arsenal Gallery spotlights the artistic talents of New York's African-American community with Reaching for the Sun: A Celebration of Black History Month. Sponsored by the Parks Ebony Society's Black History Committee, the art collection showcases works in various mediums by Parks employees and members of the City's recreation centers. The gallery is free and open to the public from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. It is located on the third floor of the Arsenal, at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue inside Manhattan's Central Park.
