Parks Announces Upcoming Opening Of Rockaway Beach

DATE: Friday, May 25th, 2007

TIME: 11:00 a.m.

LOCATION: Beach 108 Street and Shore Front Parkway

EVENT & PHOTO-OP: Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe will join Assembly Member Audrey Pfeffer, Council Member Joseph Adabbo, community members and local students to announce this weekend’s season opening of Rockaway Beach. The event will include demonstrations of the many recreation and athletic activities along the beach this summer, including fitness classes, volleyball and hoola-hooping.

DETAILS:

New York City’s beaches will officially open on Saturday, May 26. Lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Swimming is strictly prohibited at all other times. Beaches will remain open through Labor Day weekend.

The Rockaway peninsula is a barrier beach on the south shore of Long Island, a beachfront oasis within the limits of the world’s greatest metropolis.
