New York City’s Sister City Program And The Parks Department To Showcase Student Work From Around The World At “My Dream Park” Gallery Show

DATE: Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

TIME: 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

LOCATION: The Arsenal Gallery, 830 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan

EVENT & PHOTO-OP: Marjorie B. Tiven, Commissioner of NYC Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps and Protocol, will join 8 through 12 year-old New York City students from After School programs in seven City recreation centers who created the three-dimensional “dream park” models that will be on display for one night only. The gallery showcase and party for the student artists will mark the culmination of an eight-month dialogue about “dream parks” in which the students engaged via the internet with peers in Beijing, Budapest, Jerusalem, Madrid and Rome. Following the show, the student work will be online at www.nyc.gov/sistercities or www.nyc.gov/parks.

DETAILS: The “dream park” curriculum was developed by the Sister City Program of the City of New York, Inc. (SCP) through its Internet-based Educational Exchange Program (IEEP), and in partnership with the Parks Department’s Computer Resource Centers. The Sister City Program’s mission is to support initiatives of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg that seek creative solutions to municipal challenges through business, security, and cultural exchanges between the City of New York and selected cities throughout the world. “My Dream Park” projects were created by students from St. Johns Recreation Center, Brownsville Recreation Center and Metropolitan Pool in Brooklyn, Pelham Fritz Recreation Center and Hansborough Recreation Center in Manhattan, Sorrentino Recreation Center in Queens and Hunts Point Recreation Center in the Bronx. Photos of the event will be made available upon request.
