NOTES FROM THE OVERGROUND: STILL TALKING TURKEY

From time to time, Parks nature lovers report on their walks in the field. The air is colder of late, and snow will stick nowadays. The woods seem bare; dense networks of tree branches make lacework in the sky. But not all the trees are skeletal yet. The evergreen stays verdant, as we celebrate with its bough during our winter solstice. Brown leaves remain on the red oak trees and other trees like the Gingko still bear fruit.

QUOTATION FOR THE DAY

"It's not the voting that's democracy, it's the counting."

Tom Stoppard (b.1937), British Playwright
