Youth Programs

Alley Pond Park Adventure

The Alley Pond Park Adventure is a one-day or overnight educational adventure program for city kids ages 8 and up who participate in school, summer camp, and other youth groups. The Urban Park Rangers and Adventure Course facilitators will lead your kids in exciting outdoor, team-building activites such as high and low ropes course exercises, canoeing, orienteering, hiking, and camping, all in the 655 acres of Alley Pond Park in Queens.

Become a Junior Ranger
The Junior Ranger program is open to kids ages 8-11. It runs from the beginning of July to mid-August, in locations in northern Manhattan and Brooklyn. Participants learn such skills as fishing, canoeing, orienteering, team-building, restoring trails, and building wildlife habitats.

Campership Program
The Campership Program, a program of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), sponsors children for a free week at one of NYSDEC's upstate camps.  Activities include fishing, canoeing, swimming, archery, bog exploration, and overnight camping trips.  Participants are split into two groups: 12-14 years of age and 15-17 years of age.

Ranger Conservation Corps (RCC)
The RCC is an urban environmental internship for high school students. Students work on environmental restoration in Forever Wild sites in our flagship parks.

AmeriCorps
The Urban Park Ranger AmeriCorps gives participants between the ages of 17 and 25 the opportunity to perform service to their community, take part in environmental conservation and restoration work, make connections with people in the environmental field, and discover the wild side of New York City.
