What is Alley Pond Park Adventure?

  • A low-cost outdoor education and adventure program in Alley Pond Park, Queens
  • A one-day adventure or overnight camping experience
  • For kids ages 8-13 in school, camp, and other youth groups
  • Children learn how to canoe, use a compass, fish, and enjoy a natural setting without leaving NYC
  • Participants explore 655 acres of woodlands, ponds, trails and wildlife
  • No previous experience necessary to participate

Program Options

Groups: Full-day or overnight programs are available for participants ages 8 and up. All Adventure Course programs can include elements of both the low and high courses in combination with other outdoor adventure activities such as canoeing, fishing, hiking or camping, and can be tailored to meet the requirements and specifications of each group. Half-day or shorter programs can be arranged. Registration is required. Programs are available weekdays from July through November (weather permitting). Programs for up to 30 participants are subject to a $250 materials cost for the day program and a $500 materials cost for the overnight camping program.

General Public: Free programs are available for the general public on a first-come, first-served basis on Sundays from 10-4, July through November (weather permitting). Pre-registration is not required.

Families: The Rangers offer a free family camping experience during the summer. We start with a cookout, then a variety of evening activities, such as star gazing and night hikes. You’ll sleep under the stars and awake to the birds, and have special access to the Adventure Course on Saturday. Everything is included. For more information visit the Family Camping page
