Soundview Park

Rendering of Soundview Park.

Bronx

Soundview Park was built along the once-marshy shores of the Bronx River and the East River, in the South Bronx. Today the 205-acre park offers the surrounding community six grass baseball fields, a cricket pitch, a running track, a soccer field, 6 basketball courts, 6 handball courts and walking/biking paths. Plans to improve the park are proceeding and will refurbish most of the existing facilities, and provide new recreational amenities throughout the park, with the goal of transforming Soundview Park into a regional, destination park.

The first group of projects currently in development (Phase 1) include a new comfort station, playground and adult fitness facility, and reconstructed sports courts, along Metcalf Avenue; a new performance lawn and access walk at the end of Rosedale Avenue; and a restoration of the salt marsh at the southeastern tip of the park.   The Phase 2 projects include a new running track and soccer field near Metcalf Avenue, and a new comfort station and playground at the end of Rosedale Avenue.  Future phase projects will include new picnic lawns and athletic fields, and expanded bikeways and hiking trails. The Phase 1 design is expected to be completed in the fall of 2009.
