Welcome!
Thanks for joining the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation in Going Greener.

Proud to be known as "New York City's Greenest," the Parks Department and the people that make up this agency are leading New York City in its effort to be more sustainable. The Going Greener section of our website shows what the Parks Department is doing to reduce its carbon footprint across the five boroughs. You can view our agency's key green accomplishments and see how we continue to plan, manage, and grow the City's green spaces in an eco-friendly way.

Currently, the Parks Department is in a robust period of growth. As we expand New York's beautiful system of parks through initiatives such as PlaNYC and MillionTreesNYC, our agency is taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint in how we do business. From building green roofs to purchasing more fuel-efficient vehicles to pursuing alternative energy, we are greening every aspect of the Parks Department's daily workings.

We hope the features in this section will inspire you to get involved in this important movement. To make New York City the greenest it can be, we need everyone to pitch in.
