Chess sets, trophies, medals, and other prizes were awarded following the last round, and International Master Yury Lapshun took on all comers in speed chess throughout the day. This six-round tournament is free and open to the public. The Chess-in-the-Parks Rapid Open is a partnership between the Parks Department and Chess-in-the-Schools, which works to teach kindergarten through 8th grade public school students the game of chess.
