Raoul Wallenberg Playground in Highbridge Park, named for Swedish World War II hero Raoul Gustav Wallenberg (1912-?), boasts children’s and tot swings, playground and exercise equipment, a comfort station that received a $500,000 capital upgrade upgrade in 2009, a spray shower and plantings. It also contains three and a half basketball courts that were refurbished by Parks and the Courts of Dreams Foundation in August 2010. The $90,000 project was funded in part by a $50,000 allocation by Courts of Dreams, with some of the funding going towards a Playground Associate.
Clear backboards surround new hoops, and the refurbished court also features colorful sports coating, an upgraded drinking fountain, and new seating areas and plantings. These upgrades brought new life to the sports court area and extended the ongoing revitalization of the northern portions of Highbridge Park.
