PARK FACT:
Philanthropist Daniel Willis James donated the James Fountain to the park in the 1880s with the intention of teaching New Yorkers about kindness and charity. Originally, tin cups were chained to the fountain to allow passerby to quench their thirst.

Summer in the Square is Union Square Partnership's popular free weekly series in Union Square Park. Running every Thursday from June 17th through August 12th, the series offers an electrifying blend of music and theatrical performances, yoga and fitness classes, and activities for kids.
USP's popular Fitness in the Square begins at 7:00 a.m. with "The Basics of Running 101" followed by "Open Level Yoga" at 8:00 a.m., both presented in partnership with lululemon athletica. Then at 9:00 a.m. join "Brooklyn Bridge Bootcamp" for a full body aerobic workout.
Kids in the Square kicks off in the playground at 10:00 a.m. with "Mommy & Me Yoga" presented by Yogi Beans and then join us in the South Plaza at 12:00 p.m. for "Baby Loves Disco."
The day's festivities end on a high note with Music in the Square, featuring TONY best musical nominee, Million Dollar Quartet at 4:30 p.m. followed by Danni Rosner at 6:00 p.m., presented by Live @ Best Buy.
