PARK FACT:

Because the Bronx River changes from a saltwater river to the only freshwater river in New York City at West Farms, just a few miles north of Soundview, the park is prime habitat for one of nature's most skillful hunters, the osprey.

Under Construction

Parts of Soundview Park are closed. We are constructing an asphalt greenway and pedestrian pathways to provide access to the Bronx River and other parts of Soundview Park. When complete, this project will open up views to both the Bronx and East Rivers, providing native plants, seating areas overlooking the river and access down to the water’s edge with a canoe/kayak boat launch and an ADA accessible route. We are also constructing a new building that will include District 9 headquarters, a community meeting room and public restrooms that will serve park patrons. The building will house a garage, offices, locker rooms, storage space and a mechanical area. This project was partially funded through New York State DOT under the Federal TEA-21 program.
Anticipated Completion: Fall 2009
