PARK FACT:
The Meadow-25 acres of switchgrass, sesame grass, and bayberry shrubs just off Orchard Beach-is reminiscent of a mid-western prairie. The site was "created" by accident when topsoil was removed during the 1930s beach construction.
Pelham Bay Park
Beaches
Parks maintains 14 miles of beaches, all of which are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.

Barbecue Allowed: Yes (Cornelia Avenue and Luten Avenue)
Bathroom: Yes
Directions: BUS: Bx12, Bx29, Bx5, Bx52, and Westchester Line number 45 serve the park. Orchard Beach is served by the Bx5 and Bx12 buses during the summer only. During the winter, take the Bx29 to the City Island Circle and walk to the beach.
SUBWAY: Take the 6 line to its last stop, Pelham Bay Park. Connect to bus (see above).
PARKING: Parking is $6.00 Monday through Friday and $8.00 on weekends and holidays.
