Turn your footsteps into sound during an evening stroll on the High Line.
The Gaits: A High Line Soundwalk is a free, downloadable iPhone application that features a score of electric guitar chords, zen gongs, and more composed by Lainie Fefferman, Jascha Narveson, and Cameron Britt, produced by Friends of the High Line in association with MATA and Make Music New York, and developed by Daniel Iglesia.
As participants walk, footsteps are turned into instrumental sounds as they move through a series of composed spaces along the High Line.
To join the fun, download the iPhone application and arrive promptly at 3:30 p.m. on the High Line at the southern end, at Gansevoort and Washington Streets. Together the group will walk north along the mile-long park.
If you own a small portable speaker, bring it along to use during the soundwalk, or be one of the first 50 participants to arrive at the meeting location to borrow a free, wearable speaker for the duration of the event.
For those who need elevator access, enter the High Line via the elevator at West 16th Street and 10th Avenue, and walk south toward Gansevoort Street.
