Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe today joined Council Member Elizabeth Crowley, Community Board 9 District Manager Mary Ann Carey, and local tennis players to cut the ribbon on $1 million in improvements to seven tennis courts at Forest Park located near 89th Street and Park Lane South.

“Thanks to Council Member Crowley and Council Member Ulrich, who allocated $1 million, Forest Park tennis players of all ages have seven resurfaced tennis courts to practice their serves, volleys, and ground strokes,” said Commissioner Benepe. “The tennis courts are among several recreational amenities at Forest Park. Visitors can enjoy bocce, basketball, running, hiking, volley ball and more, all in one great park.”

Thanks to $500,000 each allocated by Council Member Elizabeth Crowley and Eric Ulrich, Parks has reconstructed seven tennis courts. New nets and fencing were also installed. Improved drainage and erosion prevention measures at the nearby hillside were also part of the project.

The Parks Department is home to more than 600 tennis courts throughout the city. Free programs are available through the City Parks Foundation for kids and seniors for numerous popular sports. Forest Park features numerous sports and recreation facilities including bike paths, running and hiking trails, baseball and foot ball fields; bocce, volleyball, handball and basketball courts, dog runs, a skate park and more.
