By the time Robert Moses developed his plan for the park in the early 1930s, the southern East River waterfront was dotted with slaughterhouses, glass factories, power stations, and railroad yards.

Slick Rick the infamous hip hop storyteller who wears a pirate’s eye patch, has delivered some of the 80’s greatest hits, including “La Di Da Di,” “Mona Lisa,” and “Children's Story.” Hip hop purists consider him one of the greatest MCs in hip hop’s history.

Under Construction

The waterfront promenade is closed between 8th Street and Delancey Street. We are reconstructing the bulkhead, seawall and promenade. The project includes new subsurface and pavement, plantings, pedestrian lighting, benches and other site amenities and links with the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway.
Anticipated Completion: Spring 2010
