Anthony Chiarantano (1934-1974), husband and father of six, worked as a telephone company foreman for 18 years and played an active role in community affairs. He managed to get the City to provide funding to build a ball field on this block. In the summer of 1974, upon returning from a family vacation in a car he borrowed from a friend, two men robbed Chiarantano of the seven dollars he had and then murdered him. This playground is named for him.
