Please note: This event has already taken place. Please use the Search options on the right to find upcoming events.

Discover the amazing life cycle of these stunning insects and watch Painted Lady butterflies being released into Central Park.

First, craft a butterfly hand puppet or a caterpillar at our arts & craft table. Then, take your new toy with you to meet Jeffry Petracca from the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center who will bring live butterflies and caterpillars for his lecture. The event will culminate in the release of native Painted Lady butterflies in Shakespeare Garden.

All ages welcome. Free. No advance registration. Weather permitting; this program will be canceled in inclement weather. For more information and day of weather-related cancelation, call (212) 772-0210.

This program is part of the On A Wing series. Each spring, the On A Wing programs celebrate the lives of winged Park creatures through free lectures, nature walks, and family activities. For more information and to see the full schedule of events, visit the On A Wing webpage.
