SummerStage Kids presented by Disney presents Global Family Day, a day dedicated to engaging young audiences and their families through thrilling performances! Families will also have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops of circus arts, face painting and more!
As childhood friends growing up in Denver Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing, The Okee Dokee Brothers, were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek, taking long bike rides into the country or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Joe and Justin were born adventurers. Their extended canoe trip down the Mississippi River inspired their GRAMMY Award winning album Can You Canoe? (2013 Best Children's Album) and their trek along the Appalachian Trail is the subject of their forthcoming release, Through the Woods (available May 20, 2014). With songs written by campfire and harmonies born on the water, the natural world is at the heart of their Americana folk music.
Hybrid Movement Company is at the forefront of artistic evolution in the performance arts. Co-Founded in 2008 by Françoise Voranger and Jillian St.Germain, what began as a conversation of movement between professional performers has developed over the last five years into a form of physical expression unto its own. Hybrid Movement is a style influenced by the technical aspects of Circus, Ballet, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Bboying, Waving and Animation. HMC's core creative team,( Françoise Voranger, Jillian St.Germain, Ziporah Roney & Brandon Morales) celebrate unity and diversity through collaboration. Their unique and inspiring live performances have been presented at NY City Center, Lincoln Center, Bolshoi Theatre Russia, SummerStage, Hanover Theatre of the Performing Arts and more. Hybrid Movement Company is excited to present a new work "whYnot?" in collaboration with 'Fields' for SummerStage!
Shaun Parker & Company is an exhilarating and bold new Australian dance company that has exploded onto the international dance scene. The company creates critically acclaimed dance productions, which are renowned for their integration of stimulating choreographic forms, arresting musical scores and theatrical invention. Led by award winning Artistic Director and Choreographer Shaun Parker, his work is described as ‘so cutting edge it actually wanders off the edge of any single-word definition…’ The company will perform 'SPILL', an outdoor, site specific, highly physical and engaging live performance featuring four agile and charismatic performers who blaze a colorful trail across swings, slides, see-saws and round-a-bouts. Using existing children’s playground equipment as the set design, SPILL has been created specifically for public spaces, aiming to take storytelling through dance and physical expression to the heart of our local communities. Created by Artistic Director/Choreographer Shaun Parker and composer Nick Wales, SPILL was originally commissioned by DanceXchange and the International Dance Festival Birmingham as part of the London Cultural Olympiad’s Dancing with the Games.
Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone met at a circus in Afghanistan, were engaged while street performing in Scotland, and married in China. Join them as they present Waterbombs! A hysterical water balloon gladiator show with comic antics, flying water balloons, and loud opera music. Using no words, Seth and Christina deliver a gut-busting, interactive show that has thrilled crowds in 18 countries. An audience and press favorite around the globe. Great for all ages!
National Dance Institute (NDI) was founded in 1976 by Jacques d’Amboise in the belief that the arts have a unique power to engage children and motivate them toward excellence. Each year, NDI transforms the lives of over 40,000 New York City public school children and their communities through weekly classes, short-term residencies, and public performances. Under the artistic direction of Ellen Weinstein and a staff of professional teaching artists, programs are offered to all children, transcending barriers of language, culture, and physical and cognitive challenges. Children learn to work together and develop personal standards of excellence, a pride of achievement, and a curiosity about the world that supports their success in school and in life. No child pays a penny for NDI’s core programs. Children who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment throughout their dance training are invited to join the organization’s most advanced troupe, the NDI Celebration Team, and perform year-round at venues that have included Symphony Space, Lincoln Center, Juilliard, City Center, the Kennedy Center, the White House and the Academy Awards. NDI dancers have toured internationally to Geneva, Switzerland; Venice, Italy; Tel Aviv, Israel; and Shanghai, China.

As of April 27, Central Park's Bow Bridge is closed to the public for structural work and a fresh coat of paint. The work is expected to last three to four months. Removing the old paint will require wrapping the bridge in a tent-like structure to prevent debris from falling into the water. Along with repainting, the work will include replacing the wooden decking, fixing several beams on the underside of the span, and reinforcing approaches at either end.
Anticipated Completion: Summer 2015
Starting June 29, 2015, Central Park Drives north of 72nd Street will be permanently car-free. For more information, please visit on.nyc.gov/1MOAh40.
