Bowery Presents: Ben Howard / Michael Kiwanuka
Monday, July 29, 2013
6:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Ben Howard’s stage presence enchants his audience as the music flows from his fingers, “gathering words and melodies as they go, carrying his reedy, tremulous voice as their crescendos surge” according to The New York Times. His debut album Every Kingdom is now certified Platinum in his native U.K, while his latest release The Burgh Island E.P. debuted #1 on iTunes in the U.K., and in the top 30 on iTunes in the U.S as he gathers a dedicated fan base internationally. His music unites intricate and captivating guitar riffs with tender lyrics to create catchy songs which will leave listeners humming long after a listen. He has been nominated for “Best Male” and “Breakthrough Act,” for the Brit Awards.
With Michael Kiwanuka, it’s all about the voice. The new British/singer songwriter depicts his one of a kind voice as “hitting straight through to the core” with direct, emotional songs about love, yearning, comfort and belonging. Jon Pareles of The New York Times says Kiwanuka’s songs, “set a few words within a gentle vamp, often with a touch of jazz or blues, and linger over them until they become liquid incantations, melting into the music and finding refuge there.” In 2012, Kiwanuka won the BBC Sound of the Year Award. Previous winners of this prestigious award include Adele, Keane, and Ellie Goulding. Kiwanuka’s debut album, Home Again, was released in January 2012 and reached number 4 on the UK charts, as well as many top 10 charts around the world.

The East 72nd St Playground is closed for construction. It will reopen this summer. Central Park Conservancy is renovating the playground to improve its accessibility and connection to the park's landscape. Please visit the Central Park Conservancyfor more information.
As of April 27, Central Park's Bow Bridge is closed to the public for structural work and a fresh coat of paint. The work is expected to last three to four months. Removing the old paint will require wrapping the bridge in a tent-like structure to prevent debris from falling into the water. Along with repainting, the work will include replacing the wooden decking, fixing several beams on the underside of the span, and reinforcing approaches at either end.
Anticipated Completion: Summer 2015
