After its acquisition on September 13, 1897, St. James Park emerged from its humble beginnings as a low, marshy land to a vibrant park boasting nearly a dozen acres of land through gradations of soil and ash. Once it was a park, the state legislature named the space after nearby St. James Episcopal Church.
As any vital entity grows from necessity, St. James Park has expanded its facilities through the years to accommodate the needs of its community. It now includes tennis, basketball, and handball courts, a playground, and a recreation center with a Computer Resource Center, fitness room, and game rooms for seniors, adults, and children.
Young or old, all can come to St. James Park and find something to enjoy!
