New Brighton Comfort Station

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYCDPR) has issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the installation of a modular comfort station near the eastern end of the Brighton Beach Boardwalk, approximately between Coney Island Avenue and Seacoast Terrace, in the neighborhood of Brighton Beach in Brooklyn.  The new, modular comfort station is partially completed and would be located near the eastern end of the Brighton Beach Boardwalk and would replace a comfort station that was destroyed during Superstorm Sandy.

A public hearing to obtain comments on the DEIS was held on Thursday, March 20th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Shorefront YM-YWHA of Brighton-Manhattan Beach located at 3300 Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, 11235. Please note that the comment period has been extended and written comments will now be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014 and may be submitted to the attention of Colleen Alderson, Director of Parklands, at the following mailing or email address:

A Final Scope of Work for the preparation of the DEIS was issued on February 26, 2014. The Final Scope of Work reflects changes made in response to relevant public comments on the Draft Scope of Work, issued on October 18, 2013. Oral and written comments were received during the public meeting regarding the Draft Scope of Work held by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYCDPR) on November 18, 2013, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Shorefront YM-YWHA of Brighton-Manhattan Beach at 3300 Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. Written comments were accepted from the issuance of the Draft Scope of Work through the public comment period, which ended at 5 PM on December 2, 2013, with consideration of comments received after the official comment period.  Responses to comments received on the Draft Scope of Work are included as an appendix to the Final Scope of Work.
