Remembering Mayor Koch
Mayor Edward I. Koch (1924-2013) was a seminal figure as New York City recovered from the depths of its fiscal crisis. Under his administration, New York City's parks also began to recover from a decade of budget cuts and staff shortages. His tenure as mayor was marked by the creation of the Urban Park Rangers, the Natural Resources Group, and the Parks Enforcement Patrol, as well as the foundation of public-private partners including the Central Park Conservancy, the Prospect Park Alliance, and the Historic House Trust.
