A Special Thanks To All Parks Employees

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. Many of you have been working around the clock for days, hurdling commuting challenges and even sleeping on cots -and it has not gone unnoticed. The recovery work our ENTIRE agency is undertaking is nothing short of monumental. Among your accomplishments:

• Our Forestry Division has received more than 16,000 service requests and have completed almost 3,000 work orders.

• Our Borough Operations, OMP inspectors and Operations Excellence teams have inspected nearly 2,000 of our sites to make sure they are safe for the public to re-enter and their tireless work has been extraordinary, allowing us to re-open the majority of our sites citywide.

• Recreation is going above and beyond to make sure children affected by the storm are getting food and hot showers.

• Our Parks Enforcement Patrol and Urban Park Rangers have been patrolling and securing our parks to make sure the public is safe, and Rangers even supplied canoes to the City’s first responders.

• Central Communications, IT, Telecom, Press, and New Media have been working around the clock to keep the lines of communication open, and have been constantly updating our website so that the public can get the most up-to-date information.

• Parkies in all divisions, with Citywide Operations leading the charge, have stepped up to help coordinate food distribution, supply fuel to our partners and sister agencies who need it, and get essential supplies out to those most in need on Staten Island and in the Rockaways.

• And in our spare time, teams from across the agency have come together to organize volunteer opportunities that have seen an enormous response, with almost 4,000 New Yorkers signed up to pitch in with the recovery effort already.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with our Parkies who have lost their homes or whose homes have been damaged. I appreciate everyone’s commitment to public service, to the City of New York and to Parks, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to lead the greatest agency in NYC.

Thank you, all.
- Veronica White
