Come enjoy a day of fitness and sports! New York kids can preview the fun to be had at McCarren Recreation Center this summer by participating in sports and games like double dutch, street hockey, volleyball and more. This event will also mark the debut of Parks’ brand new mobile membership van, which can process Recreation Center memberships on the go!

New York Junior League Ribbon Cutting

Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe will join President of the New York Junior League Lisa Hathaway Stella, Assembly Member Brian Kavanagh, Council Member Rosie Mendez, and Chair of the Community Board 3 Parks Committee Thomas Yu to thank NYJL volunteers and invite the community to celebrate the completion of this project. A tree will be planted at the event as part of the City’s MillionTreesNYC efforts. There will also be activities including a musical performance, face painting, and track and field relays.

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party

The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party takes place one weekend each June in Madison Square Park and surrounding streets, attracting people from near and far to celebrate America’s authentic culinary and musical traditions. Event admission is free, with award-winning barbecue and Southern-inspired fare from the country’s top pitmasters available for $8/plate. Live performances from emerging and established rock, blues and soul artists take place onstage throughout the day, and some of the country’s most innovative chefs share insights and cooking tips in the Seminar Tent.
