Flushing Bay Shoreline Clean-Up
Saturday, May 12
11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
World's Fair Marina, Queens
The Empire Dragon Boat Team, in conjunction with the New York City Department
of Parks & Recreation and New York Cares, will mark the beginning of its 2012
competitive rowing season by cleaning up areas in and around the World’s Fair
Marina located in Flushing Bay and part of Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Endorsed by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Empire is a boating crew made up entirely of women cancer survivors who have regular weekly practices from World’s Fair Marina’s main Pier 1 on Saturday mornings. Their motto of “Spirit + Strength = Success” is more than fitting on this occasion as they pull together to help their community. Empire will be also be taking the public out for free dragon boat paddling. Walk-in volunteers and participants are welcome!

If you have house plants, whenever possible water them with leftover or unused water from drinking, cooking, and showering. Keep a water pitcher near your sink or bathtub and collect unused water running from the tap (waiting for cooler or warmer water).
QUOTATION FOR THE DAY
“Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.”
Leonardo da Vinci
