This Weekend In Parks
Please join GreenThumb for its largest citywide event, the 28th Annual GreenThumb GrowTogether Conference! This year’s conference will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at EUGENIO MARÍA DE HOSTOS Community College, 475 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This year’s theme, “Harvesting Unity in our Community/Cultivando Unidad en Nuestra Communidad”, encompasses the 28 year history of the most successful conference of urban gardeners in the nation and the durability of the GreenThumb Community Garden program itself. This year’s celebration is even more exciting because of the increase in prominence of urban agriculture across the nation. We are pleased to welcome New York City School Chancellor Dennis Walcott as the special guest speaker at our plenary session. This is a testimony to the growing awareness of the vital role preserved, green space plays in our school system and in our urban environment. There are 800 community gardens in our city, 200 of which are curriculum inclusive school gardens.
Breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m. and the opening session will commence at 10:00 a.m. There will be numerous workshops and activities throughout the day. As always, the GreenThumb GrowTogether Conference promises to be full of energy and excitement!
