This Weekend In Parks

St. Patrick's Day
Join NYC Parks as we and our partners celebrate St. Patrick's Day throughout the city. Highlights include historic walking tours led by the Urban Park Rangers, and the Grand Reopening of the Servants' Quarters at the Merchant's House Museum, a bastion of Irish history in New York.

The Merchant’s House Museum celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with the re-opening of its newly restored 4th floor Servants' Quarters, home to the Tredwell family’s four Irish servants and “arguably the oldest intact site of Irish inhabitation in New York City” (Time Out New York).

From noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, you are invited to come climb the narrow staircase and see where the servants lived and worked. In addition to substantial structural repairs, the Servants' Quarters also underwent a comprehensive paint analysis and is the first space in the house to be re-painted to match its authentic 1850s colors. It is included along with the regular museum admission.

Coastal Cleanup: Rockaway Community Park
Or, head to the Rockaways to help us clean one of the great restoration projects in New York City, Rockaway Community Park. On Saturday, this park is being restored to the public, and we need your help to pick up trash and large debris. Pitch in and join your neighbors in supporting this local ecosystem. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Almeda Avenue and Beach 58th Street.

And don't forget the St. Patrick's Day Parade which marches up 5th Avenue on Saturday. Be sure to visit Central Park afterwards!

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK

Instead of throwing your unneeded plastic bags to the trash, donate them –
places like libraries and food banks often need them.

QUOTATION FOR THE DAY

“May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.”

Irish Blessing
