Reach 2: Weir to Cross-Bronx Expressway

Despite complete channelization of the river here, parks on the river banks are being designed to better protect water quality. On the east side of the river, under the 174th Street bridge, a small seep that supports some wetland vegetation will be incorporated into the design of the new greenway bike path and stormwater will be managed using a vegetated swale.

On the east side of the river, at Starlight Par, the new building for the Bronx River Alliance will be constructed using water sensitive design features, and the park renovation will include water access. Here the Bronx River Alliance is also experimenting with establishing native salt marsh plants at the waters' edge.
